Join us for our second live panel event hosted by SEAoNY’s Small Practice Committee, where we will be featuring three dynamic New York-based structural engineering entrepreneurs who have successfully started their own firms. Our panelists will share insights into their journey of launching their own structural engineering practices, discussing the challenges they faced and how they overcame them.

Kyle Twitchell, PE - Developing a passion for design, architecture and engineering Kyle has always wanted to explore and collaborate with others to create spaces that individual’s and communities want to visit. Kyle takes joy in tackling both difficult and simple engineering problems as part of the process of creating these spaces. Through his career of 15+ years, he has led the analysis and design of a variety of projects that has created a depth and breath of experience. Projects have ranged from art installations; seismic retrofits; research facilities; medical and healthcare facilities; higher education; government and infrastructure development; high end single family residential and multi-family residential; commercial developments and tenant improvements; and façade design. This diverse level of experience ranging from simple to complicated or from large to small has provided him with the ability to work collaboratively with design teams, clients, contractors and end users with positive outcomes.


Heather Schuster, PE - Ms. Schuster has spent her career focused on the construction of new structures of all sizes. She is a graduate of Cornell University, a licensed P.E. in New York, New Jersey & Pennsylvania, and an active member of SEAoNY and Professional Women in Construction. In 2021, she was selected as one of PWC’s 20 Under 40 Outstanding Women in Construction.


Tal Azulay, PE, is a licensed Professional Engineer in New York and New Jersey with over a decade of experience in the engineering and construction industry. As the Principal Engineer and founder of Elevated Engineering NYC, Tal has built a strong foundation of structural engineering expertise since establishing the firm in 2020,  and has safely and successfully designed and built over 100 projects across the metropolitan area of New York and New Jersey. All of these projects span sensitive design considerations of structural steel, reinforced concrete, structural timber, masonry, and various foundation systems for both new construction and renovation work of existing buildings. Tal holds a B.E. and M.E. in Civil Engineering from City College of New York and Cooper Union.



David Bueno, PE - David is a licensed Professional Engineer (NY/NJ) with over 10 years of experience in the A/E/C (architectural/engineering/construction) industry. He is the Principal and founder of Black Box Engineering. Prior to founding Black Box in 2018, David worked for DeSimone Consulting Engineers, where he specialized in a variety of complex designs for both new and existing construction utilizing structural steel, reinforced concrete, mass timber, and shallow and deep foundations. David also worked for The LiRo Group, where he served as a field engineer for major public projects, such as the MTA 7 Line Extension and the Hudson Yards Platform. David received his Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from The Ohio State University, with a minor in Music, and his Master's Degree in Civil Engineering from Columbia University, where he specialized in structural design. He also obtained a Master's in Business Administration (MBA) from CUNY Baruch College, specializing in Entrepreneurship.

SEAoNY will accept refund requests made in writing no later than Friday, September 20 at 5:00 p.m. ET. Registration fees are not refundable after this date.
