The SEAoNY Education Foundation* ( Scholarship Committee) is a 501(c) 3. It was established with the goal of encouraging young people to enter the structural engineering profession by supporting area college and university students studying structural engineering. Since then, we have been able to expand our goals thanks to industry generosity. We also award scholarships to graduating high school students from the Urban Assembly School for Design and Construction and support the Center for Architecture Foundation.
The SEAoNY Education Foundation has distributed over $210,000 to these great causes. And with greater demands on aging infrastructure, the need for bright young structural engineers is more critical than ever. By giving a tax-deductible gift to the SEAoNY Education Fund today, you are helping students and supporting the field of engineering.
Four annual scholarships are awarded to two graduating high school senior from the Urban Assembly School in New York, NY and two college students currently enrolled in a structural engineering program in the New York/ New Jersey area. The scholarships are funded from the proceeds of a golf outing fundraiser. The fundraiser is organized by a committee of SEAoNY volunteers. The scholarship and the golf outing fundraiser is an annual event. The scholarships are usually presented to the students at the annual meeting and the golf outing. The college students are chosen based on the choice of the Honorary Member, or the board, if no Honorary Member is named. The student was chosen by faculty at the designated school.
For 2019-2020 proceeds from the golf outing provided scholarships for students who are chosen by that year’s Honorary SEAoNY Member, or the board, if no Honorary Member was named. This past year, scholarships were awarded to Kamil Pisula from City College and Carol Shlyakhova from NYU of $5,000 each.
In addition, each year the Education Foundation provides a scholarship to two high school seniors from the Urban Assembly School for Design and Construction to support them as they go on to represent our industry and become leaders in promoting our profession. Last year’s scholarship winners were Kenya Liamura and Robert Lee and were awarded $5,000 each.
By giving a tax-deductible gift to the SEAoNY Education Foundation today, you are helping SEAoNY award more scholarships to High School, Undergraduate and Graduate students. SEAoNY also awards several scholarships annually to Continuing Education events.
