A unique architectural form for a proposed supertall in New York City led to a creative structural solution by WSP. The solution requires detailed analysis and understanding of the load paths, resulting in atypical impact to the building’s non-structural system, and leading to adjustments required in fabrication and erection of the building structure. This course will cover the general structural systems and unique aspects for the design and construction of The Spiral.

Amzaray Ahmed is a Senior Project Engineer with the Building Structures group at WSP USA. He has over 9 years of experience in structural engineering, with work on multiple mixed-use, residential, and commercial projects. He has experience with design of diverse structural systems including reinforced concrete, precast and post-tensioned concrete, structural steel, and existing structural renovations. His contributions as a member of the main structural team for The Spiral (66 Hudson Blvd, New York, NY) have led to that project winning multiple local and national awards for engineering excellence. Amzaray is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Connecticut. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from George Washington University.
