November 09, 2021

Zoom Webinar
“Embodied Carbon” is one of the many buzzwords in the climate change discussion going on today, but what does it actually mean and why should structural engineers care about it? During this presentation you’ll learn about how the structural engineering community is mobilizing to fight climate change by reducing embodied carbon in our structures, and ways that you can reduce embodied carbon on each of your projects.
Learning objectives:
-
- Understand the importance of embodied carbon as it relates to structural engineering.
- Learn about methods that firms can use to track embodied carbon on their projects.
- Learn strategies for reducing the carbon impacts of structural materials.
- Identify the business case for carbon reduction through LCA.

Kristina Miele is an Associate at Fast + Epp’s New York office. She has worked on a variety of public, commercial, and residential projects, including the 9-story CLT and Glulam "Intro" building in Cleveland, Ohio; one of the first buildings to adapt the Tallwood Provisions of the 2021 IBC. Kristina co-leads Fast+Epp’s Sustainability group as well as the New York chapter of the Carbon Leadership Forum and the sub-committee for AIA NY’s Committee on The Environment. Kristina acts as a visiting professor at Parsons and Pratt Graduate School of Architecture.
