SEAoNYStructural Engineers Association of New York
Practical Soil Structure Interaction for Building Design
July 27, 2020
12:00 PM - 1:15 PM
Zoom Webinar Platform
Thanks to the generous sponsorship from Structural Technologies
this webinar is free.
Event Description:
This presentation will address some of the most common questions between structural and geotechnical engineers that arise during the design of building superstructure and foundations, with special focus on NYC. The topics include interaction between structural and geotechnical engineers to estimate foundation springs for design against gravity, wind and seismic loads, as well as soil structure interaction considerations for wind and earthquake design. Examples of actual projects will be presented addressing how the above concepts yielded significant savings in construction.

Presented by: Konstantinos Garcia-Syngros, PhD, PE
Senior Project Manager at LANGAN
Dr. Garcia-Syngros is a geotechnical and earthquake engineering consultant whose expertise lies in the area of geotechnical earthquake engineering and soil-foundation-structure interaction. Dr. Garcia-Syngros’ practice involves subsurface explorations, seismic hazard assessments, estimation of soil and rock static and dynamic engineering properties, seismic soil amplification analyses, soil liquefaction potential and consequence assessment, geotechnical and foundation numerical modeling with the Finite Element method, development of soil foundation springs for structures, slope stability evaluations, foundation engineering and foundation construction inspections. Dr. Garcia-Syngros is an Adjunct Professor at the Civil Engineering Department of the City College of New York, and a lecturer at Columbia University in the City of New York teaching advanced foundation engineering and earthquake engineering. Dr. Garcia-Syngros is part of the New York City 2020 Building Code Structural Committee and Panel 12 for Performance Based Design.
