CFSEI TO HOST WEBINAR ON THE STRUCTURAL ASPECT OF INTERIOR NONSTRUCTURAL COLD-FORMED STEEL FRAMING ON OCTOBER 26, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C., October 3, 2017—The Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute (CFSEI) will host a webinar on “The Structural Aspect of Interior Nonstructural Cold-Formed Steel Framing” on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. ET. The webinar is designed for architects, engineers, building officials and contractors. Participants are eligible for 1.5 PDHs.

The webinar will review various interior nonstructural cold-formed steel framing for code-specified and engineered applications. Often, interior applications beyond ASTM installation standards are not thoroughly addressed in project contract documents. This webinar will assist building design professionals by highlighting code and industry standard limitations and illustrating which ones do not require analysis and which ones require additional engineering to determine proper member sizes and installation. The webinar will cover several topics, including:

    • Industry technology,
    • Wall and ceiling members: tables, bridging and limitations,
    • Chase wall framing,
    • Partial height partition support systems,
    • Structure deflection accommodations, and
    • Suspended ceiling systems.

The webinar will be conducted by Randy Kuss, Project Manager at ClarkDietrich Engineering Services, LLC. Randy has more than 25 years of experience in both structural and nonstructural cold-formed steel framing, ranging from basic interior partition installation requirements to complex architectural feature framing. His current responsibilities include engineering pricing, sales, design management, engineering design, detailing and field installation technical services for all aspects of structural and nonstructural cold-formed steel framing.

More information on the webinar and registration details are available at http://www.cfsei.org/.

The Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute comprises hundreds of structural engineers and other design professionals who are finding a better way to produce safe and efficient designs for commercial and residential structures with cold-formed steel. CFSEI members work together to develop and evolve industry standards and design methods, produce and issue technical bulletins, and provide seminars and online training to improve the knowledge and skills base of engineers and design professionals. The NCSEA SEER Committee has activated their database of 2nd responders for Hurricane/Tropical Storm Harvey.  Currently only members within a 700-mile radius of the affected area are being contacted, but we would like to encourage all interested SEAoNY members to add their information to the NCSEA SEER database.  You can register here: https://ncsea-seer.com .

Please note that to participate in post-disaster assessments you will need to complete ICC's DRI or CalOES's SAP training along with FEMA's ICS 100b, 200, 700 and 800 (FEMA classes can be completed on line: https://training.fema.gov/is/).  If you are interested in volunteering, but have not completed the required training, we recommend that you still add your information to the NCSEA SEER database, in the case that others are needed for either this disaster or a future one.

We will keep you all posted as we receive additional information.  If you are looking for other (less structural) ways to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey, please visit the Red Cross website.

The IABSE Future of Design Conference is a one-day event aimed at engineers, architects, academics, students, contractors, fabricators or other built environment professionals. The purpose of the conference is to exchange knowledge on topics that are of importance to our industry now and in the future and to energize, educate and inspire the next generation of designers. We are aiming at maximizing the exchange between participants by making use of a variety of session styles including panel discussions, short lectures and hands-on workshops. Accomplished designers and researchers will pair with emerging and innovative designers to present ideas on what the future holds for structural engineering. We will also discuss the future of our practice as a whole and how we adapt as designers to ever changing contexts with increasing complexity.

IABSE (the International Association for Bridges and Structural Engineering) is a truly global association with members in over 100 countries. The Future of Design Conference is a successful annual event in the UK and we are about to launch the first event here in NYC. For more information, visit our website https://fodnyc.org/ and buy your ticket now at the Early Bird rate here.
