Structural Engineering Excellence (SEE) Awards

(formerly the EiSE Awards)

It's that time again! Entry for the 2026 SEAoNY

Structural Engineering Excellence Awards is now OPEN!

All entries must be received no later than

Friday, April 24, 2026.

All awards, including Engineers' Choice, will be presented at the

Annual Boat Cruise and SEE Awards Presentation.

The Awards will recognize the best of creative achievement and innovation in structural engineering by New York State firms in three categories. Up to eight awards will be awarded during the SEE Awards Ceremony at the Annual Boat Cruise.

1. New Buildings

(up to 3 awards)

2. Forensic Analysis/ Renovation / Retrofit / Rehabilitation of Structures

(up to 2 awards)

3. Other Structures

(up to 2 awards)

One project will be awarded the Engineers’ Choice award.

There is a $100 member (log in for this pricing)/$150 nonmember fee per award entry. Sustaining Members of SEAoNY may submit entries for free based on their membership status:

Platinum Members may submit up to 3 entries for free
Gold Members may submit up to 2 entries for free
Silver Members may submit up to 1 entry for free

Raising the Palace Theater

The lecture tells the story of how a 100 years old landmark theater weighing 7000 tons was successfully lifted 30 feet above sidewalk level in the middle of Times Square in 2022. The Raising the Palace Theater presentation is produced and narrated as a human interest story about how a team of structural engineers figured out a way to conceive, design and execute an insurmountable engineering feat that has never been done before.

The presentation starts with a brief You Tube video describing the history of the Palace Theater and why it needed to be raised. Following the video, the course format changes to an in person lecture accompanied by a sequence of onsite photographs, including copies of the historic structural drawings of the existing theater structure, which will help describe the sequence of events that ultimately lead up to the final design and execution of the theater lift process, including a time lapsed video showing the theater box being lifted in the air.

Tony Mazzo is a Senior Principal and CEO of Urban Foundation Engineering, LLC. Tony earned both his Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in Civil Engineering from the City College of New York. He is a New York State licensed professional engineer. In 1981, Tony joined the Urban Team, where he developed his professional expertise in both new foundation construction and structural alterations for existing buildings, which include apartment buildings, office towers, hospitals, museums, churches, schools, universities, and landmark structures. Tony received the Engineering News Record Award of Excellence and was honored as one of ENR's top newsmakers of 2022. He is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Moles, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and Deep Foundations Institute. Tony is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Medisys Health Network and is former instructor for the NYU School of Continuing Education. He has authored a section in the McGraw Hill Construction Encyclopedia on the topic of piling and has conducted many lectures at universities and professional societies on the technical aspects of foundation construction.

It is not every day that a brand-new sports stadium is built in New York City's backyard.

Join the Structural Engineers Association of New York (SEAoNY) Programs Committee for an exclusive site tour of Etihad Park, currently under construction.

Scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2027, Etihad Park will serve as the future home of the New York City FC (NYCFC) soccer club. The stadium will accommodate approximately 25,000 fans and is strategically located adjacent to Citi Field in Queens. In addition to hosting NYCFC matches, the venue is expected to play a major role in upcoming international events, including the 2028 Summer Olympics.

This event will include a tour of the project site from the Engineer of Record, HOK and the General Contractor, Turner Construction. This event's capacity will be limited to only 30 people. All attendees will be required to complete a waiver, provide their own PPE and will not be allowed to take or post photos of the site.

All participants must sign and return waivers & NDA to admin@seaony.org by Tuesday, May 5, 2026. The waivers & NDA will be emailed to participants in their registration confirmation email.

Participants will need to bring their own PPE (A4 cut resistant gloves, hardhats, OSHA compliant boots, vest, and safety glasses).

Join us for an in-person tour of the 90,000 square-foot Mary C. Winder Community Center that provides a welcoming space for the Oneida Indian Nation community located in Oneida, NY. This building is one of the largest, newly constructed glulam projects built in the state. The glulam was sourced from the only mass timber manufacturer in NYS, Unalam located in Unidilla, NY. This event will start with a 1-hour (PDH) presentation from the Structural Engineer of Record, Dr. Cole Hamey, PE with Thorson Baker + Associates (presenting virtually) on designing buildings with glulam framing. The presentation will be followed by a tour of the building by the Construction Manager, Maggie Werts with The Hayner Hoyt Corporation. The presentation is only available to in-person attendees.

Since joining Thorson • Baker + Associates (TBA) in 2007 as an EIT, Cole has received his PE license and assumed the role of Structural Senior Project Manager. Cole’s project experience with TBA includes healthcare, commercial and educational projects. Cole has been the lead engineer on multiple Revit projects, as well as multiple projects that are vibration sensitive. Cole has also worked on projects utilizing the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and LEAN construction practices. In March of 2025, Cole became a Director.

The Education Foundation also provides scholarships to high school seniors from the Urban Assembly School for Design and Construction to support them as they go on to represent our industry and become leaders in promoting our profession. Last year’s scholarship winners were Jordan Furlow and Ayham Barakat.
